The kick-off to the holiday shopping season went off with a bang.  Economy woes didn't stop local shoppers from getting out and taking advantage of a good sales.

According to the National Retail Federation more than 172-million people went shopping this weekend, which is up 25-million shoppers from last year. Around the Hub City is no exception, Black Friday this year was a proven success. Several crowds of shoppers packed Lubbock stores.

"We probably had about 500 to 600-people waiting in line, it took about 15-minutes to get everybody into the store," said Target Store Team Manager Dee Dee Floresca.

Most shoppers had to wait in lines to make sure they got the best deals.  At Best Buy people even camped out Thanksgiving morning so that they were the first in the store on Friday.

"Lubbock customers were really great, there was no commotion in any of the lines.  It was backed up around the store for awhile, but we got everyone in calmly. We really have great customers in Lubbock so everything went really well," said Best Buy Store Services Manager Jeremy Williams.

So what were the hottest items this year?

"The big things were laptops that we had in the sales advertisement and some TV's that were a really great price," said Williams.

"Electronic games, video games, movies, pretty much anything that has to do with home entertainment, we are seeing a big sales there," said Floresca.

And shoppers did not let the bleak economy get in the way of holiday savings.

"Last year and this year were very comparable, we anticipated it to be a little softer than last year but it wasn't at all. It was so very similar to last year for the Friday," said Floresca.

And for those of you who don't want to mess with the crowds this weekend, you still have a chance to cash in on some good deals. The Monday after Thanksgiving is known as Cyber Monday the online shopping version of Black Friday, and plenty of stores are ready for it.

"We have some deals online right now and then more things will pop up daily and throughout the rest of the holiday season. So there are a lot of great deals," said Williams.

"Target offers free shipping on over 60,000 items purchased from Target.com. If you are an online shopper, you definitely need to check it out because there are going to be a lot of great deals available," said Floresca.
