More People Depending On South Plains Food Bank

The holiday season is considered a time for good food and family get togethers.  But what about those who get together with nothing to eat?  With the kickoff of the 26th annual "U Can Share" Food Drive, NewsChannel 11 is making it easier for you to help.

This year, we have set our highest goal ever, hoping to collect 600,000 pounds of food.   And according to Food Bank President David Weaver, they can use every bit of it.   He says, "We seeing probably a 15 to 20 percent increase in the number of new people that are showing up asking for assistance."  Weaver says high food and fuel prices are to blame for the large increase in local demand.

The food drive kicked off this morning and will last until 10 p.m. Saturday, December 6th.  Donations can be made at our "U Can Share" location at United on 82nd and Frankford.
