A man working as a door-to-door canvasser for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Tony Sanchez was arrested after he allegedly pulled a gun on a truck driver. Ian Davis, 18, told police that he was soliciting support for Sanchez on Sunday when he and a West Columbia man, who was driving a truck at the time, began arguing. Police say Davis then pulled a black pistol from his backpack.
The unidentified truck driver then went home and called police, police say. A Sanchez campaign spokesman said that Davis, quote: "was dismissed after the campaign learned of his arrest. This is totally unacceptable behavior, and he was dismissed immediately."
Davis was booked into the West Columbia jail, where he faces charges of aggravated assault. Palmer said Davis would be arraigned on Monday, and bond will be set then.
