Happiness is contagious, literally. According to a new Harvard and UC San Diego study smiling can be caught from one person to another. Together their research has proven that if you surround yourself with friends and neighbors who are happy it rubs off on you.
This isn't just a little observation; the researchers studied over 50 thousand social and family relationships and found the effects lasted up to a year. So what are the effects? Researchers say this is actually an important public health message. Specifically, that happiness spreads especially among friends, siblings and neighbors.
Ironically, they found the happiness of a spouse was minimal compared to the health benefits of happy interaction between siblings, friends, and neighbors.
