The Cactus Cuties will be leaving Friday for what they say is their biggest performance to date. They are going to be performing for President Bush in Washington, D.C. at the White House Holiday Brunch. In the past year the singing quartet has performed for the Jerry Lewis Telethon, Monday Night Football, and even on the Disney Channel. For these four young girls, what could be bigger than that?
"We were so excited. We were like screaming. I screamed and jumped up and down for about 15-minutes," said Madeline Powell, the youngest of the group.
They say it's one of the best moments in their short lives thus far. A few weeks ago the Cactus Cuties received a phone call asking them to perform Christmas and patriotic songs for President Bush, his family, and friends at the White House Holiday Brunch. "We're going to be singing at the White House, and of course I was like ahhhh," said Baylee Barrett, one of the Cuties.
Performing isn't new to the girls. Baylee Barrett, Blaire Elbert, Andi Kitten, and Madeline Powell are all between the ages of 9 and 14-years-old, but the group's been together for some time now. "Five-years together," the girls said in unison. "Soon to be six," added Barrett.
They've had several national performances, but they say this opportunity is the best yet. They won't be singing the whole time they're in D.C. "The spy museum... Oh yes, we want to go there. I really want to do that because we always play spies, and we're like O.K., I'm agent M.," said the girls.
After their weekend in D.C., the girls have big plans for their music. "We are actually putting together a band, so I hope that keeps on going," said Blaire Ebert.
The girls have a busy month ahead of them. When they get back from D.C. the Cactus Cuties have a performance in California, then another one at the Houston Texans game coming up, and then they will perform here in Lubbock on December 21st at the Cactus Theatre.
The group has to pay their way to Washington D.C., so they ask if anyone would like to donate contact the Cactus Theatre at (806) 762-3233.
