Idalou Football Star Remains in Hospital After Severe Head Injury

Idalou senior #24 Tanner Cook collided helmet to helmet with a Cisco lineman at Saturday's game. "Tanner just said I can't go anymore, and he came off the field and next thing you know he's on the ground and he is just out," said teammate Zack Hernandez.

Cook was taken to UMC with a serious head injury and remains in stable condition. On Monday, teammates say Cook is a role model and leader on the team. "Before the game he said anybody whoever tries their best has never regretted it win or lose. He left it out on the field that day," said Hernandez.

Cook has a younger brother who is also on the football team. "He is taking it pretty bad. That's his brother, his idol, that's who he looks up to, and Tanner is a good guy to look up to, a perfect person to look up to," said Hernandez.

Players say Cook is a very talented running back, with big dreams. "He was playing for Tech, so we'll see how that goes, hopefully goes in his direction because God knows he deserves it. If anybody, he deserves it," said Hernandez.

Now all the friends can do it wait and hope for the best. "Just hope to see Tanner soon and that he gets better. I'm praying for his family," said friend Jonathan Aguilar.

"Just praying for him, hope he makes full recovery soon," said Hernandez.
