One of the biggest auto dealerships on the South Plains settled out of court with the federal government. Stanley Automotive in Brownfield agreed to pay more than $164,000 to a fired employee. Stanley also agreed to not give that employee a bad job reference.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued on behalf of Brian D. Smith. The EEOC says that Stanley fired him for nothing more than appropriately investigating allegations of sexual harassment by other employees. The deal was signed last week.
