Clovis police have arrested the seventh of eight men who fled the Curry County jail on August 24.
Police Captain Patrick Whitney says Louis Chavez, 19, was captured Monday without incident in a vehicle outside a Clovis grocery store after a citizen spotted him. Whitney says Chavez gave officers a false name, but was quickly identified. He says Chavez told police he'd been in Texas and returned to Clovis just hours before being captured.
The inmates had escaped by stealing a key to a plumbing closet, climbing the pipes and cutting a hole in the roof.
Chavez had been held on charges of burglary, larceny and extreme cruelty to animals. Authorities say Edward Salas, 24, a convicted killer, remains at large.
