Texas Tech's Probationary Status Removed

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC)  removed Texas Tech University from probationary status Tuesday.

SACS placed the university on probation in December 2007 due to the need to provide further evidence regarding the assessment of general education courses.

"I am pleased that the probation has been lifted," said Guy Bailey, president of Texas Tech University. "During the past year, a number of people have worked extremely hard to put in place an assessment process that will provide meaningful data on our general education courses. We were able to develop the assessment and meet the SACS evidence requirement in a timely fashion.

"I want to thank Dr. Valerie Paton who led the effort and the many faculty and staff members who worked diligently on this process.  I would also like to thank Dr. Joe Silver from SACS who helped us in getting this task accomplished."

Texas Tech continues to be fully accredited with SACS-COC as it was throughout the probationary period. Texas Tech looks forward to continuing its positive relationship with SACS-COC in the future.
