As the flurries sifted through the South Plains Tuesday, road crews prepared to respond if conditions worsened.
"Our TxDot crews are monitoring the weather and once they feel we do need to get out there and start putting down the liquid magnesium which we use on the bridges and overpasses to prevent any kind of freezing we'll start those up," said Texas Department of Transportation Dianah Ascencio.
TxDot and the city of Lubbock want to remind drivers to take their time, slow down, and always drive with caution. "You need to drive cautiously when you are driving over bridges and overpasses because these structures are the first roadways to freeze over when the weather does get bad," said Ascencio.
It's also important to check your car before driving in winter like conditions. "Check your tire pressure, antifreeze, you always want to change your oil at the right increments and drive safely," said General Manager of Rapid Oil Change Steven Hope.
The city of Lubbock Street Department is in charge of all of the streets around town like Quaker, Indiana, and Slide. TxDot will monitor the Loop and other state highways, intersections, and bridges.
