A Clovis truck driver is recovering at UMC, after driving his rig off the loop into Yellowhouse Canyon.
Police tell us 30-year-old Antonio Gallardo drifted off the road and landed between the north and southbound overpasses on the East Loop near 50th Street around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday night. The truck went through a guardrail, down the embankment between two overpasses and landed in a creek. The trailer burst also burst open, spilling the load of peanut butter.
Emergency crews spent more than an hour cutting away the cab to free him. Gallardo was taken to UMC to be treated for hypothermia and injuries to his legs and, at last report, was in serious condition.
Investigators say the truck belongs to "By Faith Trucking" out of Portales. The accident spilled a shipment of peanut butter into the canyon.
