Shots Fired Near School

A domestic dispute near a Lubbock elementary school had school officials on alert Wednesday afternoon. Around two o'clock Wednesday afternoon a teacher at Martin Elementary called police saying she heard gunshots.

All the kids were escorted inside the building and the police arrived just minutes later. No one was hurt. Police say two shots were fired, but the school was not in danger. "The children were brought inside upon hearing the disturbance. That would always be our policy if there was a threat outside to bring kids and be sure were in place," said Beth Burkhalter, Martin Elementary Principal.

Police are still investigating what happened.

We are starting off the weekend cool, but warmer temperatures are on the way along with a break from high winds today. Sunday we will a combination of warm temperatures and southwesterly winds sustained at 20-30 mph in the afternoon hours. With high temperatures, low relative humidity values and high winds, we will see the return of an elevated risk for wildfires.
