In an effort to help those in need feed their families during the holidays, a new fundraiser was born Wednesday at the Texas Tech Health Science Center.
Some important people there, like Dr. Bernie Mittemeyer, longtime community leader and decorated Army veteran, took time out to "pretend" to bowl in an interactive video game contest. The event was called a "food fight" but it was really a fight for food. Event organizer Emma Carrasco says, "This is the first time we've had a food drive of this size at the Health Sciences Center. This week, we're hosting a Wii game contest between vice presidents and faculty." Carrie Edwards, PhD, an assistant professor at the TTUHSC School of Nursing, adds, "I think that at this time of year, it's important and the south plains food bank is a very worthy cause so we're excited to be here today and to help out".
