FDA advisors are meeting Wednesday and Tuesday to determine whether common asthma medications cause more harm than good. The FDA panel is looking specifically at Advair, Foradil, Serevent, and Symbicort. This is after analyzing data from 110 clinical trials since there have been reports of 20 deaths from asthma complications. Most occurred in patients taking Serevent alone, which goes against medical guidelines since it is recommended in combination with an inhaled steroid.
Medical experts argue there is good evidence these medications work ...when used properly.
