Schools See an Increase in Free Lunches

Posted:

We've heard the South Plains Food Bank is struggling with a bigger demand than ever to feed the hungry and so are schools as more people sign-up for free lunches.

This comes from a new report by the School Nutrition Association, which says that overall, school districts are seeing an 80% percent increase in free meals.  While this may sound like a discouraging sign of the times, health experts say there is a bright side.  School meals must meet federal dietary guidelines so more students are getting at least one healthy meal a day.
