A lot of people are struggling this year. That's why instead of luxury gifts people are giving necessities as gifts this holiday season.
Food and gas are two necessities that help get through everyday life, and in this year's struggling economy-- is the perfect gift for Christmas.
"We have gas gift cards and oil change gift cards available at the office. The sales have been a little better than the last years," said Charles Bolton the owner of Bolton Oil.
Bolton has seen about a 15% increase in gas gift cards this year.
"People are looking for sensible gifts that mean something and not necessarily an extravagant gift for a gift," said Bolton.
"It's definitely a good idea, somebody will really like that, you can't say no to gas," said one gas pumper.
At United Supermarkets, they have also had great gift card sales.
"Gift cards are always a huge hit, but I think probably more this year than the years before," said Eddie Owens with United.
Sue Balzer says she likes buying gift cards for the holiday season, but changed the type of card this year.
"Last year we purchased gift cards from restaurants and Barnes and Noble, but this year we decided to change it up and do the gift cards from the grocery store. We decided to use the United gift cards because everybody has to eat," said Balzar.
An important thing to remember if you are giving gift cards, is you want to make sure the business is stable, and if you receive a gift card, try not to hold on to it for long.
