Friends & Family In Shock After Weekend Murder

Posted: Updated: Dec 15, 2008 11:17 PM CST

Neighbors tell NewsChannel 11 they still can't believe what happened at the Green Gable Apartments early Sunday morning.

Tiffany Pitts, 26, is in the Lubbock County Jail charged with the murder of her boyfriend, 32-year-old Joshua Caleb Hope.

Clara Conner, who lives two doors down from the couple, went out with Pitts and Hope earlier that night. The couple stayed up visiting at her apartment until just an hour or two before the stabbing happened, "I couldn't believe he's gone. I couldn't believe she did it, and I still can't believe it," said Heath Bowie who also went out with Pitts, Hope, and Conner that night.

They spent the night singing karaoke at C.C.'s. "We went out. We had fun. We came home. We sat and talked for awhile, and you know she fell asleep on my love seat. It was just a shock to me because I've never even known them to fight," said Conner.

It was a shock when police knocked on Conner's door around 5 a.m. and told her Hope had been stabbed. It was an even bigger shock when she found out police arrested Pitts for the murder.

The 911 call came in as a domestic dispute. Police say the couple got in an argument that led to the stabbing, but they do not believe it was self defense. "The facts of the case, as they are at this point, lead us to believe that the charge of murder is more appropriate," said Lt. Neal Barron of the Lubbock Police Department.

With Hope dead and Pitts in jail, Connor says it feels like she's lost two good friends, "It's just so overwhelming, I mean I don't know what happened."

Friends of the couple say they want to try to bail Pitts out of jail because they still don't believe she could commit murder.

Monday night, Tiffany Pitts' sisters also spoke out about the murder Pitts is accused of committing. They say she is very upset about what happened. "She basically said that she was trying to defend herself, and she's very sorry that it had to come to this and that she's just - she's out of it right now, but our love goes out to not only our family, but the Hope family because Josh was a part of our family."

Pitts is currently being held at the Lubbock County Jail.
