Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that come February 17, 2009 broadcasting will change forever. That's the day broadcasters will stop transmitting the traditional analog signals and go all digital.
You've seen the news stories, public service announcements, crawls, and even community events all aimed at getting you ready for this major event. Now we are actually going to simulate "the big switch" for your TV.
So consider this, if you want to be sure you are ready you need to tune in for this important test. The test will happen four times on Wednesday at 7 a.m., Noon, 6:30 p.m., and 9 p.m.
Tune in at one of these times and you'll have two minutes to check your televisions. If you see regular NewsChannel 11 programming, congratulations! You are ready for the big switch.
If you see a slate with a scrolling message, then you are not ready. You can call 888-388-2528 and they'll walk you through the process. I would suggest you use those two minutes and check all of the TV's in your house.
The most important thing to know is that you do not have to buy a new TV or begin subscribing to cable or satellite to receive our digital signal. You simply need an inexpensive set top converter box.
Up until now, the FCC has relied on broadcasters to educate the public so all will be ready. Now is your chance to know for sure.
