The U Can Share Food Drive fell short of its goal this year, but the giving continues, and one Lubbock utility company wants to help. "We have hopefully a great idea to help the (South Plains) Food Bank meet their goal," said Dan Alderson, director of public affairs for Atmos Energy.
It is the largest food drive to benefit the food bank and they say it continues to be an annual effort needed to feed the less-fortunate in our area, but this year the number of families needing help has increased 20 percent.
The food drive collected more than 300,000 thousand pounds of food, but organizers had hoped to collect twice that much. Atmos Energy has teamed up with praylubbock.com to help organizers reach their original goal, "We thought about our fleet of trucks. We have those trucks in and out of the neighborhoods everyday throughout Lubbock."
Anybody who wants to can donate at their local church likewise with Town & Country Food Stores up until the 3pm on December 22nd. Then Atmos trucks will go and pick up all the food at all the locations and all the churches and bring the food to the food bank.
In addition to local churches and Town and Country locations, you can still donate at United Supermarkets as well as the South Plains Food Bank.
