Lubbock School Teacher Dies in Crash

Posted:

A beloved teacher in Lubbock has died from her injuries in a car accident Friday morning. Joanna Dunn was in an accident at 92nd and Slide.

The Jaws of Life had to remove her from the car. Since she was talking at the scene, it appeared that she would survive the injuries. She later died during surgery. Joanna Dunn taught for 49 years in the Lubbock Independent School District, mostly at Honey Elementary, where she began teaching 6th grade in 1983.

In 2006, when 6th grade became a part of middle school, she was moved to Mackenzie Junior High, which is where she was currently teaching. She told many people her goal was to teach for 50 years.  This year was her 49th year as a teacher at L-I-S-D.

NewsChannel 11 will continue to follow details in this tragic story.
