A former Texas Tech student is now sitting on death row. 31-year-old Vaughn Ross was convicted of Capital Murder, and sentenced to death by a Lubbock jury last week. Ross was found guilty of killing 53-year-old Texas Tech Professor Douglas Birdsall and 18-year-old Viola Ross McVade in January of 2001.
Ross was transferred to the Polunsky Unit near Huntsville on Tuesday morning. The average wait on death row is ten and half years right now, as convicts sentenced to death in Texas get an automatic appeal.
