On Thursday U.S. Rep. Larry Combest announced that the South Plains Regional Housing Authority has received a total of $508,617 in grants and loans through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Office. "This project will help provide better housing to many low-income families, and I am glad that our local community has received this funding from USDA."
The South Plains Regional Housing Authority has received more than a $300,000 loan and a grant of $208,617 through the department. The funds will be used to rehabilitate Morton Meadows, a 20 unit low income project in Morton. The facility is essential to the needs of a large contingent of farm laborers in the area.
Upgrades will include handicapped accessibility and general rehabilitation and maintenance.
