A 20-year-old man wanted for murder in the death of a San Angelo woman died in a shootout with a state trooper.
The Department of Public Safety reports that Manuel Al-Cantar shot the trooper using a 12-gauge shotgun in Eden Texas Wednesday night. The trooper returned fire, killing Al-Cantar.
Authorities say the officer tried to identify Al-Cantar and the driver of a car he was in before the shooting. The San Angelo Standard-Times reports that Al-Cantar is named in a murder warrant for the shooting death of 38-year-old Lynda Fairchild Wednesday. The driver of the car is charged with attempted capital murder of a peace officer.
Al-Cantar's body was sent to Lubbock for an autopsy.
