Area Fire Fighters Battle Southeast Lubbock Grassfire

Firefighters from several area departments are at the scene of a major grassfire in Southeast Lubbock County. From the NewsChannel 11 Towercam, thick black smoke was visible just before 3:00 p.m. Friday, and it was visible for miles across town.

The source of the fire was the grassy area near the railroad tracks at Loop 289 and Southeast Drive. From there, the blaze traveled to a housing development at East 65th Street and Peach Avenue, and on to Yellowhouse Canyon.

By late afternoon, firefighters stopped the fire from going any further, and worked to prevent the fire from flaring back up again.
