Man Pleads Not Guilty In Sunday's Murder

Police have charged 36-year-old Michael Shivers with killing 27-year-old William Devaughn Bell in Lubbock on Sunday at around 2 a.m. Police found the victim, Bell, early Sunday morning lying in the middle of the 1800 block of 15th St. Bell had been stabbed in the chest and arm. Right now, police can't find any connection between the two men.

Bell and Shivers have a history of drug related charges and Detective Ray Martinez says the murder could've been a drug deal gone awry. They say they named Shivers as a suspect after witnesses said they saw him in the area. "We're very thankful that we had some witnesses who were willing to step forward on something of this magnitude. A lot of times you don't get that, in a homicide case. You have witnesses, you know, that you know are out there, but these people were willing to step forward right away," says Sergeant Tony Gribben with the Lubbock Police Department.

Bell lived with his family in Idalou and had three young children.
