120 Pounds of Marijuana Seized In Lubbock Drug Bust
More than 100 pounds of marijuana are off Lubbock streets after law enforcement made a drug bust Thursday afternoon at the 4319 43rd Street.
The Lubbock Sherriff's Office started surveillance of the house a few days ago after receiving tips about possible drug sales. LSO received a search warrant Thursday morning, and around noon the Sherriff's Office, Police Department, and Drug Enforcement Agency acted on that warrant.
Thirty officers were involved in the investigation. The officers found an estimated 120 pounds of marijuana inside the house and arrested Wayne Flake, who owns the house, Merced Lopez, Scotty Bell, and Mark Dyest.
Officer's estimate the drugs would sell for almost $85,000 street value. There is a possibility the men could face serious charges. "There's a chance that this case may actually tie in to a federal case, and if that's the case then they may go with federal charges, but at the very least they're looking at state charges," said Major Con Carter with LSO.
NewsChannel 11 spoke with several neighbors who said they suspected something illegal was happening at the house, so they were not at all surprised when the police showed up.
