Texas Tech officially has designated an international cotton research center. University officials have designated the research center in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Associate Dean, Norman Hopper, tells NewsChannel11 that the multi-institutional center recognizes and capitalizes on the efforts of world class cotton research scientists.
The cotton industry accounts for nearly five billion dollars of the Texas economy. Also, more than 20 percent of the nation's cotton production is grown within 100 miles of Lubbock.
