The South Plains College Texans improved to 15-1 overall and 3-1 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference competition when they defeated the New Mexico Military Institute 88-60 Monday night at the Texan Dome.
Sophomore guard Ladarius Hall scored a career high 27 points to lead the Texans. Hall shot 10-of-15 from the field, which included hitting 7-of-11 from downtown. Shooting guard David Tairu scored 16 points, 14 of them coming in the first half, while point guard Landon Tatum had a double-double scoring 15 points and dishing out a game high 12 assists. Freshman post Myles Walker also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Also for SPC, Markhuri Sanders-Frison scored five points, Romel Kemp and Antwain Thomas added three points each, while Hugh Mingo and Allan Thomas each scored two, and Phil Outley added one point. Freshman guard Tramar Sutherland had a good night as he hauled in 10 rebounds.
The Texans will travel to Midland College on Thursday in what should be a tremendous clash as the Chaparrals are 17-1 overall and 3-0 in WJCAC going into Monday nights game versus Clarendon College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will be aired live on KLVT 1230 AM and here.
