This sounds so simple but a study by Harvard and the World Health Organization says a brief safety checklist could save an untold numbers of lives and they want this incorporated in hospitals worldwide.
The checklist is just a single page of questions to be answered before and during surgery. It includes everything from an introduction of every person in the room to questions about equipment to make sure it's working properly and a count of all the instruments used during the procedure, to questions about equipment to make sure it's working properly.
The Harvard study indicates that by following this simple checklist, inpatient deaths following surgery dropped by more than 40 percent.
