Big Weekend of Events and Activities at Texas Tech

A new college is opening at Texas Tech, and a weekend full of events to build the excitement began Thursday. The College of Visual and Performing Arts opens this year at Tech, so the school is holding a Fall Arts Fest through Monday. On Thursday, they held an open house at the administration building followed by a tour of the Texas Tech art building. For information on other events this weekend, you can call Texas Tech at (806) 742-2011.

Meanwhile, some older pieces of art are on display at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. In honor of the late Dr. James Wheeler, the display opened Thursday in the Preston Smith Library. Wheeler's family donated several medical and pharmaceutical artifacts dating back to the 1600s. Tech Chancellor David Smith says the collection allows students and visitors to see how medicine began.

From the beginnings of medical technology to the very latest, that was on display at the United Spirit Arena on Thursday. It was part of the West Texas Technology Symposium. It featured the latest medical technologies offered in the field today.
