Consumers and pharmaceutical companies are on a constant search for a better drug to fight acne, one of the most common skin disorders in the country. Now, a new drug that promises an easy solution will soon hit the market. Fort Worth based Galderma Laboratories has announced its new Epiduo gel, a prescription that combines the retinoid Adapalene with the anti-microbial treatment benzoyl peroxide.
Dermatologist Stephen Mayberry, M.D., says, "As dermatologists, we've been having our patients use these two products at the same time for years." By combining the two in one prescription, Dr. Mayberry says it will be easier to take, especially with just one application a day. In clinical trials, patients using the gel have minimal side effects and see a big improvement after just one week.
The FDA has approved Epiduo for use in patients 12 and older, so, it should be available by prescription very soon.
