Fire Department Responds to Storage Unit Fire

The Lubbock Fire Department responded to a fire around 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon on the 5200 block of 14th street. The fire began with a smoker in the backyard and progressed to the fence and a storage building.

"I believe most of the fence and the storage shed in the back were destroyed," said Battalion Chief Randy Butcher. The fire spread to the house next door but left minimal damage. No one was injured.

The Fire Marshal's Office encourages home owners to keep a safe distance between smokers and combustibles to prevent fires from starting during the dry seasons.
