South Plains on Alert for Increased Fire Danger

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous fire weather outlook for the area.

Warmer than normal temperatures and dry conditions are fueling the fire alert. Strong winds contribute to the danger as well.

Firefighters extinguished a grass fire near 34th Street and East Loop 289 on Monday, and another one along the Slaton Highway between Slaton and Lubbock.

There were no reports of major property damage in either fire.
