For many years, 34th Street supported new construction in other parts of Lubbock. Now businesses in the 34th Street Association hope Lubbock residents will return the favor.
In a letter to the Lubbock City Council, the association requests a bond election. A portion reads, "the association believes the time has come for the City of Lubbock to tend to the need of historical areas of this community such as 34th Street."
In a public statement Monday, the association said basic infrastructure like refurbishing major streets should be a priority.
The Lubbock City Council is scheduled to discuss the item later this week.
