The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has closed the eastbound Marsha Sharp Freeway flyover at West Loop 289 to allow for work on the structure's anti-icing system. The flyover will remain closed throughout the week as crews troubleshoot the system, said Bryan Wilson, P.E., Lubbock Area engineer.
"Closing the flyover will give the technicians the access they need to thoroughly evaluate the system," Wilson said. "We're focused on getting the work done in a timely manner so we can make sure it's up and running before the next winter event."
Motorists traveling through the area should anticipate the closing of the westbound flyover, as well, as the entire system is analyzed.
"Although we'll be working on both structures, only one flyover at a time will be closed. The work may last several weeks, but both flyovers will be open for weekend traffic," Wilson added.
Loop 289 traffic wanting to connect with eastbound Marsha Sharp Freeway will be detoured onto the frontage road. TxDOT has placed message boards alerting motorists of the detour.
