A 19-month old boy died Sunday in a wreck in Northwest Lubbock County, and police say, it may have been avoided if the child had been in a safety seat. Two trucks collided at County Road 6300 and North Milwaukee Avenue. There was not much left of the two trucks after they collided just after Noon. DPS Trooper John Gonzales says a blue Ford ran a stop sign. That is when a tan truck broad sided the Ford in the intersection. The impact ejected 19-month old Dakota Mason from the Ford. He died at Covenant. EMS took the boy's mother, 22 year-old, Angela Mason, to Covenant where she is in stable condition. Her husband, 22 year-old, Jimmy Mason, and their 6-month old daughter, Maria, were both at UMC Monday night. Trooper Gonzales says this is another reminder to always wear your seatbelt.
"You're less likely to wear your seatbelt going to the store, but you're more likely to be involved in a crash. Those two combinations aren't good because it's not the fact of you not wearing your seatbelt, but it's the other person that may run into you," said Gonzales.
Doctors treated and released the four teenagers in the other truck.
