A Midland native may have been in Bali, Indonesia when two bombs went off Saturday. It was the worst terrorist attack in Indonesia's history. 34 year-old Jake Young was an attorney working in Hong Kong. Young was in Bali, taking part in a rugby competition with the Hong Kong football club. According to his father, he was in the process of moving to the Kansas City area, and was expected to return Tuesday.
"The phone rings, that faint ray of hope rises up again that maybe that's the call, and it's gonna continue I guess, I'll continue to have that faint ray of hope until I get the call that says it's not possible anymore," said Jake's father, Jacob Young, Jr. As of Sunday evening, a state department spokeswoman said two Americans had died and three others were injured.
A nine year-old girl died in a house fire Monday morning in Dallas. Nine year-old Rebecca Cobbs died in the fire, while her mother and nine brothers and sisters were able to escape. Authorities say the fire started around 5:30 a.m. Investigators say the fire was most likely started by a stove the family left on to heat the home.
It looked like a river, but it was actually a 60 foot water pipe break that flooded a Houston neighborhood. Firefighters in boats had to rescue about a dozen people. Dozens of homeowners were still being turned back Monday because of dangerous conditions. About 12 square blocks were flooded. So far, no one has been injured.
