Lubbock County inmates are helping the dogs of the Animal Shelter get some exercise. Five days a week low risk, minimum security inmates get two hours to walk the dogs. The program is part of the Lubbock County Sheriff Inmate Work Program.
Director of Animal Services, Kevin Overstreet says before this program the dogs in the shelter barely got any exercise. He says this is a great way to socialize the animals and better prepare them for adoption.
"It's important that the animals have some time outdoors and get some fresh air and let the animals do what animals run and play and stretch their legs," says Overstreet.
