Nearly 40 eight liners were seized and two Lubbock men are behind bars. Jimmy Tony Cordova, 34, and Ambrosio Garcia Junior, 24, are charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 400 grams of cocaine. This comes after they were arrested at a drug bust late Thursday afternoon.
Authorities went to the Pot-O-Gold game room just hours after Cordova and Garcia were arrested. Garcia allegedly owns the Pot-O-Gold 8-liner business at 19th and Avenue S.
Thursday night investigators executed a search warrant relating to the operation of illegal gambling devices. NewsChannel 11 cameras were the only ones rolling as deputies seized nearly 40 eight liners, drugs and money.
The Lubbock County Sheriff tells NewsChannel 11 through the investigation officers learned money from the Pot-O-Gold was being used for drug trade. "Money was utilized generated by the eight liner to purchase the narcotics and also the eight lining businesses was paying out cash dividends which is against the law here in the State of Texas," Sheriff David Gutierrez said.
Sheriff Gutierrez said the undercover investigation spans from South Texas to the Panhandle. Gutierrez adds several agencies were involved including the DEA, Amarillo Police, and Lubbock County Sheriff's office.
We are told the investigation has been ongoing for nearly two months. However, it really took shape Thursday afternoon with the arrests of Garcia and Cordova. On Friday, both men are in the Lubbock County Jail each on a $75,000 bond.
