Four Lubbock Citizens Killed in Tragic Accident

Tragedy strikes a Lubbock family after four members die in a late night car accident.

DPS troopers tell NewsChannel11 the accident happened south of Abilene just after nine o'clock Friday night. Troopers report the crash happened near Winters, Texas just 182 miles southeast of Lubbock. The call came in at 9:05 Friday night. Troopers rushed to State Highway 153, seven miles southeast of Winters.

When DPS arrived they found two vehicles, a Sedan and a pick-up were on fire. Authorities say 28-year-old David Hernandez of Bangs, Texas, died in the accident.  Investigators say he was driving the pick-up. They determined Hernandez was headed westbound when he swerved into the eastbound lane and hit the Sedan. 35 year-old Dion Lamont Thomson, his 4 year-old daughter Keyonna, along with Thompson's father 57 year-old George Willie Thompson, and George's wife 47 year-old Patricia Ann Johnson also died. They were in the sedan. Investigators have not determined who was driving.

Due to the fires, authorities could not tell if anyone was wearing a seatbelt. DPS informed NewsChannel11 the pick-up ended up on its top, and the Sedan came to rest in a bar ditch.

Making a Kit for an Emergency Situation
When preparing for a possible emergency situation, it's best to think first about the basics of survival: fresh water, food, clean air and warmth.
