During a special session today, the Lubbock City Council sold the Tara House on 4th street for just more than $500. It's a low price for a house, but buyer Mike Haggard must also pay an estimated $80,000 to move the historic home.
There was some speculation the house might get torn down, but Haggard says he spent the money to save a piece of Lubbock history. "When I was a little kid, I dreamed of living in that house. I never thought it would be possible," Haggard told the City Council.
Once the house is moved, the city will use that land to expand Slide Road North to Loop 289.
