A breakthrough in vitro fertilization technology is providing new hope for some would-be parents.
London scientists have developed a way to test for imperfect eggs before any are fertilized. Simon Fischel, an in vitro scientist, says, "The hope is that by looking at chromosomes and removing the eggs that have abnormal chromosomes we will dramatically improve the opportunities for successful IVF".
Researchers say that all women have some eggs with abnormalities, which may result in miscarriage, but in this new technique, doctors use only the eggs they know are functional.
