A California mom, who has asked not to be identified, is recovering Tuesday after giving birth to six boys and two girls. It was only the second time in our nation's history that octuplets have been born alive.
Ranging in weight between one pound 8 ounces and 3 pounds four ounces, all the babies are doing amazingly well. They are even off the ventilator and breathing on their own. Chief OB/GYN Karen Maples, M.D., said, "All babies were delivered vigorous, crying, kicking... Everybody was very excited."
Dr. Maples says that seven of the babies were expected but one was a surprise. Luckily, a team of 46 doctors, nurses, and assistants were on hand to help with the c-section delivery.
