Motorists traveling on I-27 over the next few months will see traffic reduced to one lane and other mainlane closures as the Texas Department of Transportation continues work on a project to upgrade the storm-water pump station at North Loop 289.
The two northbound right lanes and shoulder as well as the two southbound right lanes and shoulder of I-27 at North Loop 289 will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, Feb. 2, when crews begin work to replace the existing drainage pipe, said Jeremy Dearing, P.E., TxDOT project engineer.
"The contractor, Archer-Western Contractors, LTD., will be replacing the concrete pipe with a concrete box," he said. "This will increase the drainage capacity of the storm-water pump facility."
"The work is part of a $6.1 million project to upgrade storm-water pump station facilities along I-27 in Lubbock and Hale counties," Dearing said. "The project will make improvements to the pump station structures, replace the old pumps and piping, and update the pump houses' electrical equipment."
Work on all three pump stations is scheduled to be completed by summer 2009.
