Xcel Employees Go to Help Weather Ravaged Midwest

Seven Lubbockites are among those trying to help restore power to hard hit parts of the Midwest.

The same storm that caused school delays in Lubbock actually hit southeast Missouri much harder. Twenty-eight Xcel employees, including seven from Lubbock, will go help Ameren U.E. restore power to 36,000 Missouri residents. This is a photo of the employees getting a briefing Thursday morning in Amarillo before heading out. With all these Xcel employees leaving the area, will that mean service delays back here at home?

Spokesman Wes Reeves says no. "They shouldn't see any effect. We actually waited a little bit to make sure our weather cleared out before we sent anyone. We didn't want to be in the same condition they were in."

The Lubbock and West Texas Xcel employees start work Friday, and could be there for up to two weeks.
