One community group is reaching out to low income families to help them with their income tax preparation for free. So far the demand for this service has been overwhelming.
The Coalition of Community Assistance Volunteers has provided this service to South Plains residents for the last six years.
They want to make sure tax payers aren't missing out on thousands of dollars in refunds by not filing for the earned income tax credit, which is available to the lower income working class.
Volunteers tell us business has really started to pick up, but they are only able to help so many people each night. They advise not to wait till the last minute. This all takes place at the Lubbock Housing Authority Building located between Crickets Blvd and Buddy Holly Avenue.
"What we try to do is to inform the public that they are entitled to these and to get them in and not only prepare their tax return free but to file it electronically free for them and also return it to them electronically so that they have within a few days and they don't have to wait for that return," said CCAV Vice President Steve Anderson.
