LUBBOCK, Texas - A balanced Rogers State University offense produced four players in double-figures, as the No. 1 Hillcats handed Lubbock Christian University their fifth consecutive home loss with an 81-61 victory at Rip Griffin Center Saturday afternoon in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Two days after John Brown shot 73.3% from the field in the opening half against LCU, Rogers State shot 60.6% in the opening half (20/33). The scoring was spread out, as ten players figured into the first half scoring for Rogers State. After the score was tied 13-13, RSU used a 15-2 run to jump out to a 28-15 lead. They closed the half with a 11-4 run for a 47-27 lead at the half.
Kenny Hewitt had 11 of his team-leading 16 points in the second half for LCU, but they were unable to hold off RSU once they got on offensive runs. LCU couldn't get anything larger than a 6-0 run in the second half and 57-43 would be as close as they would get. Both squads matched each other with 34 second-half points.
Douglas Williams had ten points in the first half for LCU (4-for-5 from the field), but he fouled out in the second half and didn't even get a shot off in the half. RSU out-rebounded LCU 46-25 in the game. Eric Young led the Hillcats offense with 16 points, while Abram Donlon and Spencer Schrupp each had 13 points. Chris Francis completed the foursome in double figures with ten points. LCU struggled from three-point range. The Chaps, who shot 38.9% in the game (21/54), were just 4-for-20 (20%) from three-point range.
LCU falls to 9-10 on the season and 4-9 in conference play. They will seek to end a four-game losing streak and five-game home losing streak Thursday at 8 p.m., as they host Oklahoma City University at Rip Griffin Center.
