Motel Fire Starts in Attic

Thirty seven firefighters were needed to fight a central Lubbock motel fire Monday evening.

Just after 6:30 p.m., the Lubbock Fire Department arrived on the scene of the Villa Motel on Avenue Q to find smoke coming out of one of the second story rooms. The fire started in the attic, and took the fire department just over 20 minutes to get it under control.

The fire was contained to one room, but others were filled with smoke. "Aorking down through the units here they found smoke in 10 units, to the bottom and adjacent rooms," said Chris Angerer, Deputy Chief of Operations for the Lubbock Fire Department.

The fire marshal's office is investigating what caused the fire, but arson is not suspected at this time. For Your Cell Phone
