Last week I said I was disappointed in the recent decision to add Maria Elena Holly's name to the soon-to-be Buddy Holly Plaza in the Depot District. Basically, I questioned whoever thought it was a good idea to add her name to what should only be called the Buddy Holly Plaza.
Well, the person responsible called me, and it was truly a first. I've never had anyone whose decisions I've questioned call me directly and take full responsibility, but Lubbock City Councilman Paul Beane did just that. He added that it was his idea and his decision. He explained he knew in advance putting Maria Elena's name on the plaza was what it would take to get the deal done.
So consider this, although I strongly disagree, I applaud Councilman Beane for standing behind his decision. However, the councilman should know that this is the first time that every single response I've received agrees 100 percent that Maria Elena's name should not be there.
