Ports-To-Plains Project Driving Support From Congress
The U.S. House of Representatives is paving the way for future economic growth in Lubbock. The house passed a bill on Thursday that makes the Ports-to-Plains Route a national priority. That means the massive highway system is eligible for federal funding from the U.S. Government.
On Friday, Lubbock Mayor Marc McDougal talked about the importance of the highway to Lubbock. It will provide another major highway to transport goods out of Mexico through Lubbock and North to Denver.
President Bush is expected to sign the bill in two weeks. Construction has already started on the Tahoka Highway.
